Salvage workers find Ripley and Jones in their hypersleep capsule.
Ripley wakes. She meets Burke, finds out she was asleep for 57 years. She hallucinates about having an alien burst from her chest.
Ripley finds out her daughter has died an old woman.
Ripley can't convince a tribunal of the truth of the Alien attack. They find against her, take her flight license.
Ripley learns there's colonists on the planet where the Alien came from.
In the colony on the Alien planet, someone has been sent out to check out the alien ship.
The Jordon family, including Newt, finds the alien spaceship. The mom and dad prepare to go in, leaving Newt and brother Tim in the tractor.
The mom comes back with the dad. He's been face-hugged.
Burke comes to talk to Ripley with Lt Gorman along.
Burke asks Ripley to join an expedition to the colony planet to find out what happened to the missing colonists. Ripley refuses. We find out that Ripley is running forklifts. Burke offers to get her back her flight officer license.
Ripley wakes from a nightmare. She calls Burke and offers to come if they are going to kill all the aliens. Burke agrees.
The marines wake up on the trip to the colony planet. We meet them.
The marines are skeptical about Ripley.
Ripley finds out that Bishop is an android. She doesn't like it.

Lt Gorman is isolated from his team. The marines aren't taking this mission too seriously.
Ripley tells the marines about the alien. They still don't take things too seriously.
The ship is now at the colony planet. The team gets ready for the landing on the planet. We meet the robotic exoskeleton and find out Ripley can use it. Hicks takes a shine to her.
The team gets ready for the drop. Hudson is bragging.
The ship lands by the complex and explores it.
Ripley, Gorman, and Burke go into the complex.
They find the evidence of the colonists' last stand. They find face-huggers in bottles. Two are alive.

Hicks's motion tracker registers something. They start to chase it. It turns out to be Newt. She escapes them, dives into an air duct.

Ripley finds Newt in her lair. Ripley pulls out Newt.
Gorman tries to interrogate Newt, gets nowhere. Ripley is kind to her.
Hudson gets on the computer and looks for the colonists.
Ripley gets Newt to talk by being kind. Newt is traumatized.
Hudson finds evidence that the colonists are in the air processing station.
Hicks tells Ripley they're leaving.
The team heads for the complex. The marines go in while Gorman, Burke, Ripley, and Newt stay in the APC.
The marines go in, find an alien structure within. Ripley realizes that the team better not fire guns inside, so Gorman orders them to give up their ammo clips and use flamethrowers.
The marines find the colonists who are being turned into alien chow. They find a woman cocooned up. She begs to be killed, then is chest-burst. The marines kill the emerging alien. The aliens emerge from the walls, attack the marines. It's a bloodbath. Gorman starts to freeze.
With Gorman brain-locked, Ripley takes charge. She drives the APC into the complex, breaking into the cocoon chamber. The marines fight off the aliens, but only Hicks, Hudson, and Vasquez make it out alive. They get the APC back out.

Gorman is knocked out while they flee.

Ripley drives them back out, running over an alien while doing so.
Spunkmeyer delivers stuff to Bishop, then starts back to the drop-ship. But there are signs an alien is in the drop-ship.
The team debates what to do next. They agree to leave the planet and nuke the complex from orbit.
An alien gets in the drop-ship and kills the pilot. The drop-ship crashes.
The team is back in operations, trying to decide what to do. They're short on weapons. Rescue will come in 17 days, can they survive?
They plan how to defend the complex.
Hudson and Vasquez set up an automated gun.
Hicks and Ripley block air ducts. Hicks gives Ripley a tracker.
Ripley puts Newt to sleep in the med lab annex. Ripley puts the tracker on Newt.
In talking, the idea of an alien egg-layer is introduced.
Ripley confronts Burke on the question of killing all the aliens. Burke is determined to save some. Ripley threatens him with disclosure.
The automated guns start firing on aliens, drive them off after using up all ammo.
The atmosphere device is going to blow. They have to get off planet.

They discuss how. Someone has to crawl to the comm tower to summon the drop-ship. Bishop volunteers.
Bishop starts off on his mission.
The aliens are coming, but driven off. Hicks teaches Ripley how to use a gun.
Bishop keeps crawling on his mission.
Hicks teaches more to Ripley, how to fire, how to use the grenade launcher.
Ripley goes to where Newt is sleeping, falls asleep with her.
Bishop is making progress.
Ripley wakes. There's face-huggers in the room. She and Newt manage to keep from being face-hugged, finally getting the attention of the marines, who come in and save them. It was Burke!
Hudson wants to kill Burke, but Ripley won't let him. But the aliens are coming! They get past the barriers! There's a firefight. The team tries to get away.
Burke escapes from the marines but is caught by an alien. Bye bye Burke!
Newt leads the team to flee into the air ducts.
Bishop has got the drop-ship on its way.
The marines flee. Vasquez is wounded. Gorman stays with her and they die in self-inflicted grenade explosion, bonding together at last.
Ripley, Hicks, and Newt flee. But Newt falls to a lower level.
Ripley and Hicks try to recover Newt. They get close, but an alien gets her first.

As they leave, an alien attacks. They kill it, but Hicks is badly wounded by its blood.
Bishop gets the drop-ship. But Ripley says she's not leaving without Newt.
Ripley tapes a rifle to a flamethrower. She gears up for battle. Ripley's going in for Newt!
Ripley goes in, finds Newt cocooned, breaks her free.

Ripley meets the alien Queen. She burns up the eggs, kills aliens, damages the Queen. Then flees.
Ripley and Newt flee. The Queen follows.
Ripley reaches the landing platform, but the ship is gone. The Queen appears. The drop-ship appears, rescues Ripley and Newt, flies off.
They're back in the ship. Hicks is drugged unconscious.

The Queen appears on the ship! It stowed away on the drop-ship! It tears Bishop apart!

Ripley and the Queen have an epic battle. Ripley wins and knocks the Queen out of the airlock. She saves the day!
Ripley puts Newt to sleep in the hypersleep capsule.

Ripley says, "You did okay, Bishop." Bishop is promptly torn apart by the Queen. But even with only an upper torso, he still manages to keep Newt from being blown out the airlock.
SP: Evil Burke
We meet Burke. He claims to be okay, even though he works for the Company.
Burke was the guy who sent them.
Burke is the one pushing for the trip to the colony planet.
Burke is lying to Ripley here.
Burke objects: he claims he wants to save the complex, but we know better.
Burke wants to save the aliens and bring them back. Ripley's statements make it clear that Burke would have to kill everyone.
Burke tried to get the face-huggers on Ripley and Newt.
It's clear now that Burke wants to kill everyone for his own profit.
Burke is killed. Oh well.
In a dropped scene, Ripley encounters a cocooned Burke.
SP: Gorman's arc
We meet Gorman.
Gorman is isolated from his team. They note that he sits with the suits and not them.
On the way down, we find out that Gorman has almost no experience.
Gorman is hopeless and contemptuous in his dealings with Newt.
Gorman starts to get panicky. He doesn't deal well with changes in circumstances.
Gorman starts spewing stupid orders that get Sgt Apone killed.
Gorman is totally hopeless. He ends up knocked out.

Vasquez wants to kill Gorman, but the others don't let her.

Note the shade Cameron casts on him: scene directions describe Gorman as "brain-locked," which is the insult he earlier applied to Newt.
Gorman wakes. He tries to apologize to Ripley, but she doesn't let him.
Gorman tries to save Vasquez, but instead just dies with her. At the end, she insults him, but also accepts him.

The most badass of the marines acknowledge him, thus completing his arc.
